Yangon is the former capital of Myanmar (Myanmar moved its capital to Naypyidaw on November 6, 2005), known as the "peace city". Located in Myanmar's most fertile Irrawaddy Delta, Yangon is the economic and cultural center of Myanmar.
Yangon is a beautiful seaside city with tropical scenery. The city is surrounded by water on three sides, with Bago River on the east, Yangon River on the south, and Lai River (one of Irrawaddy rivers into the sea) on the west. Extending from the brink of the southern part of the Yangon River to north along the middle of the east and west of the river, Yangon is a bustling commercial district. In straight and spacious streets, flowers are in full bloom. The sidewalk is lined with verdant trees.
The city's civil architecture has a traditional Burmese style, but there’re also a lot of Western-style buildings. Myanmar government building, the central bank, customs, Yangon station, post and telecommunications buildings are all British-style buildings.
